Moving to Lawton
10 school districts and 46 schools with their contact details, who provides utilities in each town, the city and county offices you'll need, health care, parks, and the gates and offices on Fort Sill. Start with the map to check an address, or pick a topic.
This guide is kept as a convenience and compiled from public sources: the districts' and providers' own sites, the National Center for Education Statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau, the City of Lawton, Comanche County and Fort Sill. Details change; confirm anything you're relying on with the office named. Listing a school, business or office here isn't an endorsement, and school information is provided without comment on quality, in keeping with the Fair Housing Act.
Tell me which areas interest you and I'll plan a drive: the neighborhoods, the schools from the outside, the gate you'd use, and the grocery store on the way home.
Utilities
Providers by town, with the number or page to start service. Territories don't follow city limits exactly, especially for electricity and water outside Lawton, so I confirm a home's providers during the inspection period and you'll have the list before closing.

Water, sewer and trash come on one City account. Apply online or at City Hall (212 SW 9th St) with your lease or purchase papers, a photo ID and your Social Security number. Set it up by 4 p.m. and the water is turned on the same afternoon, as long as an adult is home. The deposit depends on the home's past usage and is credited back after twelve on-time payments.
PSO (electric) and Summit Utilities (gas) both let you start service online a few days ahead, so schedule the switch for your closing or move-in date. Both may ask for a deposit from a first-time customer; a letter from your previous utility showing twelve months of on-time payments usually waives it, so request that letter before you move.
One cart is emptied weekly; set it out by 7 a.m. Bulky items go out once a month during your assigned week, within ten feet of the curb. The City doesn't run curbside recycling: the options are the paid Recyclops subscription or, if you have post access, the Fort Sill recycling center on Naylor Road.
Outside the city limits a home may be on a rural water district or a well, a septic system instead of sewer, propane instead of natural gas, and Cotton Electric instead of PSO. None of that is a problem, but each one is a question to settle during the inspection period: which district, when the septic was last pumped, who owns the propane tank. I pull the seller's current bills so you know the providers before you close.
Fort Sill's family housing is privatized and run by Corvias. Residents don't set up electric, gas, water or trash accounts; those are covered by the housing payment. You do arrange your own internet and TV. The government's Housing Services Office (Building 4700, 3rd floor) helps with off-post rentals and purchases, landlord questions and fair-housing issues.
Sparklight, AT&T Fiber and Hilliary each cover parts of the area, and a street can have fiber on one side and not the other. Check the exact address with each provider before you assume. If working from home matters, make it a condition of your search and I'll check listings for you.
Fences, trees, mailboxes and sprinklers all count. Dial 811 or file online with OKIE811 at least three business days before digging, and the utilities mark their lines for free.
